Pack Dog Events

Location: Jones Gap and Issaqueena Lake Trails
All four hikes are designed to be adjustable to include an additional two miles for those who prefer a single hike. Hikes will follow GSMDCA Pack Dog Rules and Regulations. Dogs must have weight certificate dated NLT 7 days prior to day of hike. Pre-entry or bring your entry form with you. Fees are $15/day hike or $20/back-to-back hike. Guests and non-competing dogs are welcome but are asked to pay a small fee to help cover insurance costs.

We've chosen some of our favorite draft judges to join us for this special event. Judges and handlers alike will appreciate the square, smooth field which will be protected by signs and fencing from canines seeking "comfort facilities". Proximity to the main building is a bonus. The freight haul course will encompass the YLI campus and include grassy fields, asphalt, gravel and possibly two wooden bridges. Be sure to train for long, rolling hills! Pre-entry by 11/4/10 required. Fees: Individual $35/test, Brace $40/test Entries are limited to 15 teams per day.
Weight Pull

Location: Clemson YLI Program Main Building
Two sheltered all-breed weight pulls will be held during the Swissypalooza. The equipment and surface will be a wheeled cart on carpet over concrete floor. Extra weight pull harnesses will be available and dogs will be weighed at the event; therefore, "day of event" entries will be accepted. It is not unusual for a dog to earn a leg at their first pull, so novice dogs (age 14 months or older) are encouraged to attend.
Spectators are welcome. Weight classes are: under 90 lbs, 90 - 109 lbs, 110 - 129 lbs, and 130 or more lbs. Entry fees are $20 per dog.
Clinics
Agility for Beginners

This will be a 2-hour "mini-clinic" geared to dogs and handlers that have little or no agility training. Emphasis will be on safe/positive training methods for jumping, weaving, and navigating contact obstacles and tunnels. Dogs will first be introduced to the equipment then run short and full courses. Because agility is a strenuous activity, dogs must be at least 18 months old and sound. Dogs should also be reliable off-lead (e.g. able to be recalled and not dog aggressive). Handouts will be provided for training dos and don'ts and basic rules for AKC trials. Fee $20. Spectating is welcome and free. Only participants are allowed to use the equipment. Maximum class number: 12 dog/handler teams.
Drafting for Beginners

This clinic is for dogs and handlers that have no or little drafting experience. Dogs entered in the draft trial may not enter this clinic. Carts and harnesses will be available or you may use your own rig. Harnessing, hitching, and maneuvering will be covered in this class. Fee: $20 Maximum class number: 12 dog/handler teams.
Agility Fun & Games

This activity is for dogs that are already familiar with the agility equipment. We will have relay races, round robin, short courses and other fun activities to reinforce training received in the introductory clinic. Fee $10. Spectators are welcome. Maximum class number: 12 dog/handler teams.
